Self-Lay Provider

If a development requires a new water main or sewer, the developer may ask the water or sewerage company to install the pipework. Alternatively, they may choose Talbot Pipelines Ltd to do the work, which is known as self-lay.

Self-lay providers must be accredited under the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) which is recognised by all the water companies and Water UK. Under WIRS, Lloyd’s Register carries out technical assessments of the service providers who elect to be accredited for contestable works associated with installing water infrastructure.

Using a self-lay provider such as Talbot Pipelines Ltd can be preferable as we will utilise our years of experience to co-ordinate and streamline your installation. This will enable you to focus resource and time on delivering the development.

The process for using self-lay is laid out in the stages below. Where the responsibility refers to Developer or SLP, Talbot Pipelines Ltd can take on the responsibility on your behalf.
